- Description
Under the supervision of the Recreation Superintendent, performs varied supervisory, administrative, and instructional tasks in directing recreational activities and/or a facility. Work is reviewed through observation and attainment of program objectives. Work requires flexible hours. Performs other work as required.
- Examples of Duties
- Supervises, schedules work assignments, and provides technical training to staff.
- Schedules use of facilities upon request, collects fees, and conducts program registration and prepares refund/transfer requests.
- Requisitions and maintains supplies, issues equipment, ensures proper use and care of equipment, and maintains attendance records as required.
- Provides instruction or assists in conducting recreational activities and organizes various sport activities for citizens.
- Enforces rules and regulations concerning proper facility use.
- Handles complaints; answers general inquiries from the public about availability and use of equipment, facilities, and programs.
- Writes contracts, correspondence and reports as required.
- Oversees physical maintenance of sites/facilities.
- Develops, implements and supervises recreation programs, classes and activities for all age groups and interests.
- Ensures the facility is effectively supervised and secured by the recreation center staff.
- Assists with budget preparation and monitor recreation center budget and expenses.
- Promotes recreation programs through press releases, flyers, newsletters, brochures and presentations.
- Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED with seven (7) years of experience in the development and implementation of recreation and leisure service activity programs. OR
- An Associate’s degree with five (5) years of experience in the development and implementation of recreation and leisure service activity programs. OR
- Bachelor’s degree program with three (3) years of experience in the development and implementation of recreation and leisure service activity programs.
- At least two (2) years of the above experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
- Must be able to work flexible hours.
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida driver’s license. Applicants who possess a valid out of state driver’s license must obtain the Florida driver’s license within 10 days of employment.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of a variety of recreational activities and equipment.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the play of a variety of recreational games.
- Skill in leading, instructing, demonstrating, and supervising recreational activities and programs.
- Ability to responsibly oversee the use of recreational facilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and courteous relationships with the public.
- Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain records.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to train and demonstrate maintenance requirements for the upkeep of sites/facilities.
- Ability to meet and maintain the minimum standards set forth by the state of Florida regarding driver’s license.
- Ability to operate City vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
- Must be able to communicate with the public in a meeting formal or on a one-to-one basis.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
Physical and Mental Requirements:- Ability to speak and read.
- Ability to use hands, fingers and wrists as required in writing contracts and reports.
- Ability to understand and communicate with subordinates, co-workers and children.
- Ability to work around excessive noise and various odors.
- Ability to deal with stress associated with conflict between individuals.
- Ability to see and hear, correctional equipment acceptable.
